Course Description:

As community members, volunteers, service providers, business operators and professionals we can find ourselves providing support to people experiencing difficulty, emotional distress or crisis. We want to help, but how should we respond?

Without the assurance that comes from being a qualified counsellor, the Accidental Counsellor can be confronted with a range of dilemmas and uncertainty.

This one-day workshop will provide you with a practical framework and skill set that enables you to respond to these situations with confidence and clarity.

During this training you will have the opportunity to:

  • Define the role of the Accidental Counsellor
  • Examine key frameworks that form the basis of Accidental Counselling
  • Apply core communication skills for helping
  • Explore the 5 Stage Helping Process
  • Develop appropriate responses to someone at risk of suicide
  • Discover referral pathways
  • Identify a range of self-care strategies

Who should attend

Residents of Southern NSW including community members, service providers, volunteers, business operators and professionals.
